I have been experiencing sexual dysfunction from Zoloft (which I’ve been on for almost a year). I’m starting Wellbutrin now to combat these side effects, and I was wondering if anyone had experience with this alleviating sexual dysfunction?

I’m mainly wondering how long it takes to kick in. I’ve heard a ton of different things… from it working immediately to taking a month. Thanks!

i tired paxil but it causes sexual dysfunction so my doctor recomended effexor xr. does this not have sexual dysfunction or is better for anxiety and depression

I am 19 years old. I have had more trauma in my life than i can mention. I have lived in 4 countries because of war in my own country and I have been in depression since I can remember. I suffer from anxiety, ocd, and heavy depression. People when they see me they think im a normal guy and girls always compliment my looks but i feel like the loneliest person in the world. Because of my issues i cant maintain relationships with people and i am sad all the time. I dont talk to my father at all cuz he’s a jerk and my mother drives me nuts with her paranoia. I was prescribed prozac three months ago, and i felt much better on it. It allowed me to keep my anxiety down around people and i stopped dwelling endlessly on things that were out of my control. The downside were the sexual sideffects, loss of libido at 19 is sad. I also learned about possible permanent sexual dysfunction after longterm prozac use. So ive stopped taking it for 2 months now and i am going completely insane.
I would gladly smoke weed, but I just came back here in Iowa and I don’t really have any friends to hook me up with some. I have smoked a couple times in past, made me feel really nice =)

I know I have depression, there’s no doubt in my mind about it. I’m not my normal self. When I don’t have to get up for work or school, I can easily sleep for more than 12 hours and still be tired. There are days when I’m always eating something, other days I’m not hungry for anything. I’m not interested in doing the same things I always have been. I stay in the house, watching TV or playing on the internet.

The problem is…I don’t know whether a doctor would be as well trained in diagnosing depression as a psychiatrist or counselor. However, I know that a doctor would be well trained in assuring that the antidepressants I’m prescribed are ones that will give me the least amount of side-effects. (My libido is low enough and I read that’s one of the side-effects.)

Also, what do they (doctors/psychiatrists) do to diagnose depression? Do they test hormone levels or what-not? I don’t have insurance and I’d like to know what to expect before charging it. Help would be appreciated!
